Last Tuesday, Empathy Action were at Institut Florimont, a private school in Geneva, running our simulation about life in the poverty trap. There were about 120 teenagers taking part and a number of teachers and parents from the school assisting us with other roles.
We were very kindly invited to come and run the event on the back of a recommendation from a pupil of Sevenoaks School in Kent who had previously attended.
It was hugely encouraging to see the kids engaging with the activity and to hear testimony from a number of staff about their own experiences taking action to battle poverty. One teacher wrote to us afterwards, ‘I was delighted to see our human rights week develop a more hands on approach and actually enable our students to be confronted with some of the issues that we spend time discussing.’
Empathy is something that crosses borders and translates into all languages. Everybody, no matter their age, where they live or their position in life, can take action, and that is what we are always seeking to promote.
