Ben Solanky, the Co-Founder and Director of Empathy Action says, “At a time where we're seeing so much division and bad news in the UK and worldwide, we want to remind people that we can choose to live as neighbours, not strangers! There’s such a vibrant community at work right here in Tunbridge Wells.”

Rooted in the message “We’re neighbours not strangers in a wonderful, caring community,” and run by volunteers, The Empathy Store has two central aims:
To sell gifts that tell a bigger story of positive change, raising money for Empathy Action and its partners.
To provide a welcoming community space for anyone to discover brilliant volunteering opportunities right here on their doorstep.
Further quotes from Ben Solanky, Director & Co-Founder of Empathy Action:
“When Black Friday sales encourage us to buy more and think less, The Empathy Store offers a real antidote — an alternative that channels the energy of shopping into real impact, supporting brilliant work happening in our local community and far beyond.”
“There are so many opportunities to volunteer right on your doorstep—it’s remarkable and really powerful. And it doesn’t cost you a penny.”
“We like to think that choosing to buy small gifts from us is actually pretty radical on the high street! They’re only small gifts but each one is highlighting a bigger story.”
“Each one’s really an act of radical kindness that can help the shopper and their loved ones connect with someone else who’s going through tough times. It’s helping people walk in someone else’s shoes, just for a moment.”
The shop space was donated by generous partners at Royal Victoria Place and will be open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays throughout the festive season.
