tEAm news #68 | 08.12.21

The extreme weather this week reminds us of the power of the natural world. We hope it calms down so that those in the North can finally have their power restored.

Stay safe and warm.

My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. ...

We’re open for Christmas sales and as a special thank you to our team news community, we have a special 20% discount code for you (please keep it to just you guys as it’s been a hard year for Empathy Action and we would love every penny from others).

A Star that Cares - handcrafted by Zimbabweans in South Africa.
£4.95

A limited edition handcrafted Star that has care written all over it.

It’s designed to be given away to some one you care about just like the makers who care deeply about the family members it helps. Perfect for advent gifts, stocking fillers and adorning your Christmas tree this festive season.

Crafting ways out of poverty for the small band of artisans who call themselves ‘Vashavi’ (Zimbabweans in Cape Town, SouthAfrica) is not only a daily act of creating but also a reclaiming of hope. A source of hope that means educating their children, sending ‘home’ money to family members in Zimbabwe and for medication. These stars are skillfully made by these displaced artists with hope to provide for the people they love most. The Vashavis’ message to you 'thank you’.

You’d be surprised at the journey this purse has taken to get to you.

With natural fibres woven and dyed in the remote village of Umphange in Myanmar the women pass these to the women in shelters in Kandy, Sri Lanka who sew this together.  It is not only designed to hold treasure but is itself a treasure crafted by women helping women to cling to hope.

Child Action Lanka creatively links resources and skills of women in need around the world. Thanks for holding this little treasure.

  • Desperate Journeys trial! Bee was back in town and we ran a super pared down trial of DJ (that was based on the UCL Social Hackathon version) last Friday - during her lunch break (!) - in the spare office to help Trevor understand the programme. We’re hoping Trevor can be trained up to help deliver the programme next year. He shared at the end "about 80% of this is something I have experienced for real.”.

  • Former EA intern (and solider within DJ) Cameron Wenham has been popping in to help out with a few e-commerce bits and pieces. Cheers Cam!

  • Former EA’er Angie Adams is trying to get some items sold at her new school Skinners Kent Academy Primary School. But she’s had a few covid challenges with PCR tests (null tests and waiting for the negatives to come through) and then with Cora being rushed to A&E. Please spare a prayer or thought for Cora as she recovers… and thank you Angie for selling these items at the school.

  • UPDATE on Claire: following a fairly gruelling (#understatement) treatment from Easter for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, she’s had a result back from a scan on her bone marrow to show that there’s no trace of the cancer (wow!)… the family are also on the move (heading to Rusthall very shortly!)

Kay-Lee and Caleb at the Christmas Markets in SKA last Sunday.

Huge congratulations to our trustee Vic Mason on becoming PC Mason this week. Well done Vic!
